Cheers is a comedy TV series that was shown for a total of eleven seasons from the year 1982 through 1993 with 269 episodes excluding the additional two special episodes. Charles-Burrows-Charles Productions produced the sitcom in coordination with the Paramount Television. The Team creating the team was James Burrows, Glen Charles and Les Charles. The case included, among others, Kirstie Alley who acted as Rebecca Howe, Nicholas Colasanto as Ernie "Coach" Pantusso, Ted Danson as Sam Malone, Kelsey Grammer as Frasier Crane, Woody Harrelson as Woody Boyd, Shelley Long as Diane Chambers, Bebe Neuwirth as Lilith Sternin, Rhea Perlman as Carla Tortelli, John Ratzenberger as Cliff Clavin and George Wendt as Norm Peterson. The show's first episode bore the theme Where Everybody Knows Your Name. In its original plan, Sam Malone was supposed to be a retired player in football and was intended for Fred Dryer. However, the production later decided that it would appear realistic and believable if it will be played by a Ted Danson who was formerly a baseball player.
The set-up and the story of the show evolved in a bar called Cheers in BostonMassachusetts, which name was taken from the toast "Cheers". In the said bar, some of the groups in the locality will meet there to have some drink and some fun.
However on September 30, 1982, after it had its premier it was almost cancelled in the course of its first season when it hit last in the ratings. Fortunately the production did not gave up and further improve their crafts that made the sitcom's eight seasons in an eleven seasons consistently at the top ten in the ratings in the US with one season making it in the number 1. In fact, the show is within NBC's must see Thursday list. It had its finale broadcasted on May 20, 1993 that was widely viewed all over the country. The show gained awards from the Emmys with 117 nominations.
