Morikawa was so talented that at the age of twelve Sessinghaus was telling his wife Morikawa would be a professional one day. Morikawa continued to develop his game to become a top college recruit. With four respected universities (Stanford, UCLA, USC, and Cal-Berkeley) as his final choices, Morikawa chose to take his talents to Berkeley.
