Historical Milestones
Led Zeppelin was a rock band founded in London back in 1968. The band consisted of guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, drummer John Bonham and keyboardist and bassist John Paul Johns. Page wrote most of the music and lyrics for Zeppelin. The group signed a deal with Atlantic Records under the context that they would be given creative freedom and they eventually exploded in popularity.
Some consider Led Zeppelin as the founder of heavy metal with their use of guitar-driven sound which at the time foreign. Led Zeppelin’s first four albums are simply titled Led Zeppelin with roman numerals to indicate each album in order. The fourth album or Led Zeppelin IV may have been their most popular as it featured the hit song “Stairway to Heaven”. This album was one of the more influential in the history of rock music and ensured the immense popularity of the band.
Led Zeppelin was one of the most successful bands ever constructed with all nine of their studio albums making the top 10 of the Billboard Album Chart, six of which landed in the No. 1 slot. They are the second-best-selling band of all time in the United States and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
