Historical Milestones
Fleetwood Mac is a British-American rock band that formed in London in 1967. The band is one of the best-selling bands of all time as they sold over 100 million records worldwide. Fleetwood Mac was founded by guitarist Peter Green, drummer Mike Fleetwood, and guitarist Jeremy Spencer. The band initially had a hit British single “Albatross” that went number one in the UK. Still by 1974, Green and Spencer both had left the band and their replacements Bob Welch and Bob Weston left the band as well.
In 1974, the band was introduced to Lindsay Buckingham and pursued him to become their lead guitarist. Buckingham told them he would only join if his girlfriend at the time and singing partner Stevie Nicks could join too. Both artists joined, and the band ended up blowing up in popularity. Their first two albums, “Fleetwood Mac” and “Rumours” both reached No. 1 with “Rumours” producing four of the Top 10 singles at the time.
Fleetwood Mac is a classic rock band that is iconic for their work spanning five decades. While the band has often fluctuated with different members, the collective has been pioneers of rock music and select members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
