Elaborate Teddy Roosevelt Signed Military Appointment
This impressive Military Appointment bears a large autograph of our 26th President, Teddy Roosevelt, who served in office from 1901-1909. Measuring 16x20 and dated February 2nd, 1901, this official document appoints a specific officer to "First Lieutenant of Infantry in the Service of the United States". This was in the 9th Calvary Regiment, known as the famous "Buffalo Soldiers".
In addition, it is also signed by the Secretary of War, Elihu Root (1845-1937), who would later win the 1912 Nobel Peace Prize. President Roosevelt's autograph appears in the lower right hand corner of this vellum paper document and Root's in the lower left.
Attention must be given to the printing and engraving of the document itself, in particular the grand vignettes at top and bottom. A large widespread bald eagle dominates the center with the words "The President of the United States of America" in large one-inch bold caps directly above. The bottom of the appointment features a montage of military items, including a sword, canon, drum, hat, and of course our official flags. The all-important official seal remains intact and there are no tears or rips.
We chose the perfect frame and had it professionally double-matted to an overall size of 22 x 28 inches. It makes a wonderful statement and will look great on the wall of an office, den or conference room.
A fabulous piece of historic history!
