Robert De Niro is an American actor, producer, and director. He was born on August 17, 1943, and will forever be remembered as one of the industry’s greatest figures.
Robert De Niro’s first acting role came at the age of 20 when he starred in Brian De Palma’s film The Wedding Party. Following that appearance, he soon took part in the film Bloody Mama in 1970. In 1973, Robert De Niro gained much fame with his role as a dying Major League Baseball player in Bang the Drum Slowly. De Niro soon began his duo with Martin Scorsese in 1973 when he played criminal Johnny Boy in Mean Streets. In The Godfather Part II, Robert De Niro played Vito Corleone and he earned his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as a result of his prominent acting. He became the first actor to win an Academy Award for speaking almost all in a foreign language. With his role as Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, De Niro was known for his words “You talkin’ to me?” and he earned his first Academy Award Nomination for Best Actor as a result. He later appeared in The Last Tycoon and The Deer Hunter, the later earning him a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role. In addition to a majority of mob roles, De Niro played in comedic roles such as Analyze This, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers, and Flawless. The President of the Jury at the 15th Moscow International Film Festival, De Niro earned even more influence. He appeared in This Boy’s Life, In the Line of Fire, and A Bronx Tale which earned him an Academy Award nomination. He was also awarded an Honorable Prize for contribution to cinema at the 20th Moscow International Film Festival. In 2011, he was the President of the Jury for the 64th Cannes Film Festival and the following year he starred in the films Silver Linings Playbook, Freelancers, Red Lights, and Being Flynn. For his role in Silver Linings Playbook, Robert De Niro earned a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He has also co-founded the film studio TriBeCa Productions, the Tribeca Film Festival, the restaurant Nobu, and the restaurant Tribeca Grill. De Niro and internationally renowned chef, Natalia Jibladze, according to the July 2010 issue of Gourmetmagazine, had plans for a restaurant in Manhattan under his Tribeca trademark, but the restaurant was never established.
