Historical Milestones
Kenny Chesney was born on March 26, 1968, in Knoxville, Tennessee. As a teenager, he received his first guitar, “The Terminor,” and taught himself how to play the instrument. In 1989, he released a demo album that he self-recorded in Virgina and sold 1,000 copies during his local performances. Upon graduating from college at East Tennessee State, Chesney moved to Nashville, Tennessee in pursuit of his music career. In 1992, he signed his first publishing and record deal with Opryland Music Group and then with the country division at Capricorn Records. In 1994, Kenny Chesney came out with his debut album titled All I Need to Know, which featured two Top 10 singles: “Fall in Love” and “All I Need to Know.” His third studio album was released in 1996, Me and You, which was his second major-label album and which featured “Back In My Arms Again,” a Top 50 single on the country charts. Additionally, Me and You was Chesney’s first album that was certified gold in the US by the Recording Industry Association of America. In 1997, he was awarded the Academy of Country Music’s New Male Vocalist of the Year award. His following albums I Will Stand, Everywhere We Go, No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems, and All I Want for Christmas is a Real Good Tan featured singles ranked on the Top 10 country charts; Everywhere We Go was his first album to be certified platinum.
In 2004, he was honored at the 2004 CMA Awards with Album of the Year, for When the Sun Goes Down, Entertainer of the Year, and Artist of the Year. His albums Greatest Hits, Live: Live Those Songs Again, and Super Hits feature top favorites of Kenny Chesney’s greatest hits. His more recent albums Life on a Rock, The Big Revival, and Cosmic Hallelujah have allowed him to continue to achieve more hits on the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with songs such as “Til It’s Gone,” “Save It for a Rainy Day,” and Setting the World on Fire.” In 2012, Chesney decided to call his large fan base ‘No Shoes Nation,’ which came from his hit single “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem.” In 2018, Kenny Chesney switched from Sony Music Nashville to Warner Bros. Records Nashville; his first album with them is said to be released on July 27th, 2018.
