The Hollywood sensation Jackie Chan was born in Hong Kong on April 7, 1954. His father realized his talent for the arts at a young age and so he enrolled his son in classes at the China Drama Academy, one of the rigorous Peking Opera schools. There he excelled and shortly after, in the 1970’s, Jackie Chan began his movie career with his minor roles in Bruce Lee: The Chinese Connection and Enter the Dragon. Ever since Chan’s film career allowed him to reach worldwide fame and success. He went on to star in Shaolin Wooden Men, To Kill with Intrigue, and the martial arts’ hit Drunken Master. His first film he directed, The Young Master showcased the talent of Jackie Chan as a director in addition to the actor. In 1980, he played a role in the US film Battle Creek Brawl, hoping to get his name out in the US. He followed up the film with more success with his blend of martial arts and comedy such as the action comedy Armour of God - in which Chan journeys throughout Europe in search of treasure - Project A 2, and Rumble in the Bronx, a US success. His hard work in the 1985 film Police Story became a fan favorite and Chan went on to star in three more “Police Story” films.
In 1993, he won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Asia-Pacific Film Festival in addition to the Golden Horse Film Festival’s Best Leading Actor and Best Action Choreography for his work in Cung on zo. In 1998, his highest budget production in the states came with the action comedy Rush Hour, further securing Chan as a US star. He next filmed in movies such as Shanghai Noon, its sequel Shanghai Knights, Rush Hour 2, and Around the World in 80 Days. He broke a world record with the most credits in one movie and most stunts by a living actor with the movie Sap ji sang ciu. In 2017, Jackie Chan earned his very own Academy Award. Jackie Chan continues to add to his success in the industry, already winning nearly 30 awards and 50 nominations, and is engaged in philanthropy such as UNICEF and the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami Victims.
