Harry Styles was born on February 1, 1994, in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England. Many know Harry Styles for his part in the band One Direction. Harry Styles grew up very close to his mom and struggled when his parents got divorced early on in his childhood. In school, his interest in music showcased him forming the band White Eskimo; Harry Styles was the lead singer of the band. In 2010, Harry Styles auditioned for the television show the X Factor. At the time, he had just finished his GCSE exams and had future plans to study law, sociology, and business in the fall of that year. Choosing the song “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder, Harry Styles impressed the show’s judges and stars Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell. But as a solo male artist, Harry Styles failed to move onto the next round. There was hope for the young artist, however, as Nicole Scherzinger put Harry Styles into a band along with four of the other male solo artist rejects Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne. Calling the band One Direction, Harry and the other boys performed an acoustic version of “Torn” on X Factor and immediately became a hit sensation. After signing with Simon Cowell’s Syco Records label, the boys released their debut single in September 2011 in the UK: “What Makes You Beautiful.” The single was the top pre-ordered Sony Music Entertainment single throughout history. In 2012, they released the track in the United States after signing with Columbia Records. Their first album Up All Night became the UK’s fastest-selling debut album, topped the charts in 16 countries. The group also secured a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records as they became the first British group in US history to enter a top-rated debut album. One Direction has performed at the London 2012 Olympics, they have sung for the Queen at the 2012 Royal Variety Performance, and have had sold-out Madison Square Garden shows.
Harry Styles has been seen with women such as Cara Delevingne, Rita Ora, and Taylor Swift. One Direction has sold over 70 million records worldwide and has recorded 137 hit number one singles. They have also won countless honors and awards such as six BRIT Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards, and four MTV Video Music Awards. On December 13, 2015, One Direction performed “History” and “Infinity” on the X Factor UK, but have been on a hiatus since 2016.
