Popularly known in the years 1968 through 1975, Three Dog Night is a rock band which is still making live acts and recording up to this date.

The name of the band was explained in their CD set entitled Celebrate: The Three Dog Night Story, 1965-1975 states. It was said that June Fairchild, the then-girlfriend of vocalist Danny Hutton, suggested the name, an ideas she got after reading an article in a magazine which talks about the indigenous Australians. Here, it was said that these Australians would customarily sleep on cold night in a ground hole while embracing a native wild dog, a dingo. When the nights are colder, two dogs would sleep with them and when it is really unbearably cold, it will be a “three dog night.”
