The movie continues with Shrek 2 released in 2004. After then wedding of Shrek and Fiona, they went back to Far, Far Away to meet Fiona’s parents. The King (John Cleese) and Queen (Julie Andrews) are surprised and dismayed to see that Fiona’s husband is an ogre and Fiona has been transformed into one, too. Also dismayed by the recent turn of events is the Fairy Godmother, mother of Fiona’s old flame Prince Charming voiced by Rupert Everett. They conspire to have Shrek killed by an assassin, a cat named Puss-in-Boots played by Antonio Banderas. But he does not succeed and only ends up becoming friends with Shrek. The movie ends happily with Fiona’s parents finally giving their blessing to the couple.

 

The third installment to the Shrek series was released in 2007. The story starts with King Harold falling ill and eventually dying. However Shrek and Fiona refuse to be the next King and Queen. Before he died, the King said that he has another relative who can be the next king. His name is Arthur Pendragon, voiced by Justin Timberlake and Shrek sets out to find him together with his faithful side kicks Donkey and Puss. They eventually did, but their plans were thwarted by Prince Charming’s own desire to be king. They defeat Charming in the end and Arthur chooses to become king. Shrek and Fiona, proud parents to triplets, returns to their swamp home to live happily ever after.

 

The last installment was released in 2010. After everything that’s happened Shrek finds himself tired of the way his life has turned out. He wishes for a life when he was a real ogre. The sweet-talking duplicitous Rumpelstiltskin played by Walt Dohrn, hears his wish and dupes him into signing a contract where everything in his world turns outside down. He realizes his mistakes and manages to save everyone from Rumpelstiltskin’s twisted clutches.
