The film was released on April 23, 2004 and distribution is made by 20th Century Fox specifically for US, Spain, UK, Italy, Argentina, France and Netherlands while distribution in Germany is being made by Paramount Pictures. The film is actually a remake already of the same titled movie released in 1987. The said two films are both an adaptation of the same title novel written by A.J. Quinnell. Screenplay is written by Brian Helgeland which was under the direction of Tony Scott.

The story is all about a man that was before a U.S. Marine and Foreign Legionnaire that turned into a mercenary. The set up of the movie is in Mexico City where criminal gangs are into kidnapping the famous and rich people or any member of their families for an overwhelming ransom amount of money. With the advice of his lawyer, Samuel Ramos, who is a wealthy Mexican businessman, hires a bodyguard for his daughter Lupita “Pita”, John Creasy whom Paul Rayburn recommends, was an old CIA buddy. Rayburn is an officer of an executive security company. Creasy on the other hand, is not at all interested to be a bodyguard and much less in dealing with a nine-year old. What impels him to grab it is of the fact that he needs to have a job. In the middle of the story, Creasy became fond of Pita until the time came that Pita becomes the target as the next victim of kidnapping.

The movie is starred among others by Denzel Washington, as John Creasy; Dakota Fanning as Lupita Ramos; Marc Anthony as Samuel Ramos; Radha Mitchell as Lisa Martin Ramos; Christopher Walken as Paul Rayburn and Giancarlo Giannini as Miguel Manzano.
