In this film, Marius played by Pierre Fresney was separated from his wife named Fanny played by Orane Demazis who is currently pregnant with his son. Though she loves Marius, she still marries Panisse played by Ferdinand Charpin in order for the baby to have a name and father at home. However, Marius learns about Fanny’s predicament. Marius comes home quickly but Panisse claims that he will never give Fanny up to him and he will accept the baby even though he is not the real father. Marius’ downfall is of him being a coward to accept the fact that he will never get his wife again.

This complicated love story reflects the conflict between husband and wife in real life. It shows the flaws possessed by each character that lead to a dramatic ending. The sadness which the story brought left a realization that there are no perfect relationships in this world.
