Green Day Rock New York With Secret Basement Gig

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Green Day fans, including myself, were treated to something much sweeter than almost any piece of music memorabilia when the band took the stage last night in New York City under the alter-egos, the Foxboro Hot Tubs. Featuring Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt, the band surprised fans with a secret show at the Bowery Electric, a tiny club in lower Manhattan. With a capacity of only 110, it marks the band’s most intimate New York performance in almost 20 years.

With their set ringing in at just over three hours (and ending at 2:45 this morning), the Tubs played numerous songs off their Stop, Drop and Roll album while chiming in with Green Day hits “Blood, Sex and Booze” and “St. Jimmy“. Celebrity sightings at the gig include Adrianne Armstrong, rocker Joan Jett and American Idiot the Musical producer Michael Mayer. Despite the gig ending on the wrong side of morning, some fans who waited for the band after the set were lucky enough to score some autographed music posters from the venue.

Green Day will tour this summer in support of their Grammy Award-winning album 21st Century Breakdown.

Historic Opening For Avatar On Blu-Ray/DVD

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Fans and movie merchandise collectors have been snatching up pieces of Avatar memorabilia since the film opened back on December 16th of last year. One of the most anticipated home media releases of the year, it should be no surprise that Avatar smashed the record for opening day DVD/Blu-Ray sales. Before Thursday’s opening, the high-mark for opening day DVD/Blu-Ray sales was 2008’s the Dark Knight, which sold just under 600,000 in one day. Avatar’s Earth Day release this past week saw 1.5 million copies leave the shelves.

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Big time comedy shows, concerts and star-studded appearances usually leave celebrity autograph seekers out in the dark. Such is not the case with Conan O’Brien’s “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On T.V.” tour.
