Les Paul was an innovator in the guitar world having most of his guitars made by hand. Such luminaries as Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Pete Townsend, Jimmy Page and countless others treasured their Les Paul guitars.
They knew the craftmanship would be head and shoulders above the rest.
An interesting fact is that Gibson put out only 1500 Les Paul guitars in 1959 and those guitars are now worth from $200.000 to $500.000 today.
He was known as the “Wizard of Waukesha” of Milwaukee and it was wonderful to hear that hundreds of friends and fans tuned out for his memorial at Dicovery World near his home town.
For the baby boomers, like myself, the introduction of the electric guitar was an amazing step forward in modern music. Les Paul was the person who made that possible.
