Sarandon was born on October 4, 1946 in New York City, USA. She was raised in Edison, New Jersey. In 1964, she finished her secondary education in Edison High School, the same school where American actress-singer Brittany Murphy briefly attended before moving to Los Angeles, California. Since 1964 to 1968, she attended The Catholic University of America where she earned BA in drama and worked with well-known drama coach Father Gilbert Hartke.

In 1969, Sarandon co-starred with Peter Boyle, Dennis Patrick, and Audrey Caire in the motion picture Joe. Between 1970 and 1971, she played Patrice Kahlman in the short-lived television series A Word Apart. She also appeared in the 1971 French-Italian comedy “Lady Liberty.”

In 1974, Sarandon starred in two films: The Front Page where she worked with comedy duo Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon and Lovin’ Molyy where she co-starred with Anthony Perkins. In 1975, she became part of the cult musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show and played major role in The Great Waldo Pepper. She also joined the cast of Pretty Baby in 1978 and The Witches of Eastwick in 1987.

Sarandon had her most controversial film in 1983 when she had a lesbian sex scene with French actress Catherine Deneuve in The Hunger. Her most remarkable and critically acclaimed film appearance though was in the 1988 film Bull Durham.
