Before Stanley Holloway made his appearances in television shows, he first worked as a clerk in the factory Everitts Nutta and Jetta and was later hired at Billingsgate Fish Market.

After he was featured in the 1941 film Major Barbara, his success continually grew, which was evidently seen through his consecutive appearances in various films such as This Happy Breed, The Way to the Stars, and Brief Encounter.

Holloway was also chosen to star in Hamlet together with Jean Simmons. This Shakespeare-inspired movie was directed by Laurence Olivier in 1947. It was indeed exceptionally filmed and even prevailed on the Oscar Award.

In 1964, Holloway replaced James Cagney with the Cagney, James Over There, in order to portray the character of Alfred Doolittle in the remake movie My Fair Lady. Before the latter movie was put into motion picture it was initially performed at Broadway, in which he was also casted together with Rex Harrison. Holloway nearly quit on the midst of the production when he felt ignored by his director Moss Hart.

Five years later, he was seen in the film Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, which was about a woman who moved to England to look for his missing husband. However, the couple was dragged together in an intense investigation.
