Shirley Mae Jones is an Academy Award winner American actress and singer born on March 31, 1934. Jones starred in a number of major musical films, such as 1955’s Oklahoma!, Carousel in 1956, and The Music Man in 1962. She received the Academy Award for Best Support Actress for her performance in 1960’s Elmer Gantry. Jones is best known for playing Shirley Partridge in the sitcom The Partridge Family (1970–1974).
Her stage career started when she sing for Broadway agent Gus Sherman, who was impressed and put her under contract. She then auditioned for a substitute in the long-running musical entitled South Pacific. Jones amazed South Pacific writers, Rodgers and Hammerstein with her performance; thus, they cast her in her second Broadway production Me and Juliet.
Following her second Broadway show, Rodgers and Hammerstein gave Jones the female lead role in the film adaption of Oklahoma! Film musicals then followed, such as Carousel and April Love (1957), in which she played wholesome and kind characters. However, in 1960’s Elmer Gantry, Jones, co-starring Burt Lancaster, had a lauded performance when she played a prostitute woman.
Jones was reunited with her Music Man co-star Ron Howard in 1963’s The Courtship of Eddie's Father and portrayed a lady who fell in love with a professor in 1965’s Fluffy. Additionally, Jones returned to Broadway musical with an impressive performance in Maggie Flynn (1968). In February 1986, Jones was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Jones married the actor Jack Cassidy in 1956 and had three sons and a step son, David Cassidy with the Cassidy, David 6x4 card, in Jack’s first marriage. They divorced in 1974 and in 1997, Jones married actor Marty Ingels with the Ingels, Marty autographed index card.
