He has been popular actor but he was very notable for the movie A Walk to Remember.  This was the film adaptation of Nicholas' Spark's famous novel where West played as Landon Rollins Carter together with Mandy Moore who played Jamie Elizabeth Sullivan.  This film made him won the Teen Choice Awards for Choice Chemistry for Film. 

Aside from films, he is also popular with his roles in different TV series.  One of his TV series is Once and Again where he played as Eli Sammler, the son of Billy Campbell and Susanna Thompson in the show.  He is also popular with his regular roles in ER from 2004 to 2009 as Dr. Ray Barnett.  This is the medical drama that starred several popular actors in the past like Anthony Edwards with the Anthony Edwards signed ER 11x14 photo LK PSADNA, George Clooney, Noah Wyle and a lot more.  Currently, he is regular in TV show Nikita aired in CW network. 

In terms of his music career, he performs with The Germs and was the band leader and swinger Jonny Was, a punk rock band.
