Parker’s acting career began when she, along with her four siblings, appeared in The Sound of Music production. Parker subsequently gained the role of July in the 1977-1981 Broadway musical Annie and beginning in March 1979, she succeeded the role of Annie from Andrea McArdle and Shelley Bruce. Parker’s most significant films were the 1984 films Footloose and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, alongside Helen Hunt. Other films in which Parker appeared include L.A. Story (1991), Honeymoon in Vegas (1992) opposite Nicolas Cage, Mars Attacks! (1996), and The Family Stone (2005).

According to sources, Parker is a fashion icon, having launched her own perfume Lovely in 2005 and Covet in 2007, and her fashion line Bitten in March 2007. Parker has also endorsed several fashion brands, such as Garnier’s Nutrisse hair products in 2003 and Gap in 2004.

Parker married actor Matthew Broderick in a civil ceremony in Manhattan on May 19, 1997. The couple had twin daughters delivered by their surrogate mother on June 22, 2009, namely Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge. Parker is a Representative for the Performing Arts of the UNICEF and a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the US.
