Born in 1927 as Rosemary Ann Harris, a British actor, she has primarily worked in Broadway and the theatre before appearing in movies. Another prominent Brit actor who is fast gaining popularity is Daniel Radcliffe.

Harris studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art between the years 1951 to 1952. In 1951 she appeared in ‘Climate of Eden’ by Moss Hart.  She then went back to England to star in ‘The Seven Year Itch’.

In Hollywood her first film was ‘Beau Brummel’ with Elizabeth Taylor. After the ‘Seven Year Itch’ she was back in New York, Broadway to perform for ‘Troilus and Cressida’. By 1959, she was married to Ellis Rabb and together they worked to start their own production company and make it a success. She also worked in Peter O’Toole’s ‘Hamlet’. According to industry experts the film version has Kate Winslet playing the part of Ophelia with Richard Briers as Polonius. It also has Robin Williams as a courtier.

In 1967, her husband directed her in ‘War and Peace’ and later in that year they went through a very peaceful divorce. She then married the writer John Ehle and had a daughter Jennifer Ehle who is also a successful actress and works for both Broadway and Hollywood.

Harris has received a lot of acclaim and nominations during her years in the movie business. She has won a Tony award for ‘The Lion in winter’, Emmy Award for lead actress in ‘Notorious Woman’ and a Golden Globe for Best Television actress for ‘Holocaust’ among many others.
