Paul Newman was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of sporting goods store owner. At an early age, Newman showed interest in acting, appearing in a school production of Robin Hood at the age of seven. In his bio, when World War II came, Newman enlisted in the Navy. After the war, he studied drama at Yale University and went to Hollywood afterwards. His debut film was The Silver Chalice, followed by the Rack . He was praised for his performance in Somebody Up There Likes Me where he co-starred with another Hollywood legend, Steve McQueen.
