Monica Potter was born on Cleveland, Ohio on June 30, 1971. She was originally known as Monica Gregg Brokaw, but due to the complexity of her name, her manager changed it into Monica Potter. She came from simple family status in which her father was the inventor of flame-resistant car wax and her mother was work as a secretary. She was one of the members of the St. Ferome Parish in her place. She spent her child in the local elementary school and pursued studies in Villa Angela Catholic School for girls. She also attended Euclid High School where she decided to become an actress and wished to have a role as a nun. At a young age of twelve, she begun modeling and made various TV commercials in Miami and Chicago. After several TV commercial exposures, she then started to appear in various films and TV shows.

She made her first appearance on television as a Dalina "Nubeluz", an English version of Peruvian. Along with this show, she then appeared in daytime soap opera entitled "The Young and the Restless”, playing the roles as Sharon Newman. Alongside Robin Williams, she starred as one of the major characters in the film "Patch Adams." She also appeared in various serious films including "Con Air”, alongside Nicolas Cage. She also made two major roles in 2001 and co-starred with Freddie Prinze Jr. in the film "Head Over Heels." In the film "Along Came a Spider," she appeared along with Morgan Freeman. In 2004, she appeared in the first part of the film "Saw."
