About Leslie Nielsen Autographed Memorabilia & Collectibles
Leslie Nielsen, the son of a Canadian Mountie was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He was raised in Tulita. Brother of the deputy prime minister of Canada, Leslie pursued his education at the Academy of Radio Arts in Toronto (which was administered by future Bonanza star Lorne Greene) to train himself for his career prior to migrating to New York’s Neighborhood Playhouse.
Leslie, who has starred in more than fifty movies and many TV films as well, started his acting career at quite an early age. Some of his early appearances were in “Forbidden Planet” (1956) with Anne Francis. Despite of being deaf due to his childhood illness, he extended an impulsive knack for acting and went on to become a radio anchor after serving the Royal Canadian Air Force during the times of World War-ll. After numerous years in radio, he was awarded a scholarship to the Neighborhood Playhouse, where he took acting training under Sanford Meisner and dance training under Martha Graham.
In spite of the fact that his career ranges back half a century, as per reviews, Leslie Nielsen earned true fame quite late in his acting career with his role in a series of comic spoofs “Airplane!”. Much of the early works of Nielsen were undistinguished; some of the exceptions to this were sci-fi classis “Forbidden Planet”and the famous “Tammy and the Bachelor”.
Nielsen also found fame in numerous other filmy spoofs, in fact so much of fame that those known only to his comic roles were quite surprised to see him in serious movies like “The Poseidon Adventure” and “Harlow”.
