Born in 1957 as Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo García, Gloria Estefan is an American/Cuban singer/songwriter and actress. Her music explores different genres including Latin pop, dance pop and electronic dance. She has won 7 Grammy Awards, and has sold over 90 million copies all over the world.

 

Estefan was born to a Cuban soldier. Their family fled to Indiana as a result of the Cuban Revolution. She studied at the University of Miami, and due to her multilingual abilities, was even approached by the CIA as a possible employee. This catapulted Gloria to the Billboard Top 100.’Let it Loose’, their next album, was released in 1987.In 1989, the name of the band was changed to Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine. In 1989, she released “Cut Both Ways”. This has been her best album till date. In 1995, “Hold Me, Kiss Me, Thrill Me” was released. ”Turn the Beat Around”, was used in the Sharon Stone movie, the Specialist. The platinum selling album, Destiny, was released in 1996.In 1999; she performed a duet with “NSYNC”on “The Music of My Heart”. She released “Unwrapped” in 2003.In 2005, she participated in Selena Vive, a tribute to Selena Perez, “the Queen of Tejano”, who was murdered in 1995.In 2009, Gloria , she performed at “In Performance at the White House: Fiesta Latina 2009”.Along with Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony and others, she sang a rendition of her classic “Mi Tierra” ,at the event.
