Edie Falco was born on July 5, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. Her parents are Judith Anderson and Frank Falco. Her mom was Swedish-American and was an actress and her dad was a jazz drummer who is an Italian American. Edie have two brothers, Joseph and Paul, and a sister Ruth. Edward Falco is her uncle, who was a poet and a writer and was teaching English at the Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Edie grew up in Northport and West Islip located in Long Island. She adopted one boy and one girl respectively named as Anderson and Macy.

Edie finished high school in 1981 at the Northport High School shortly after she played the character role of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. She joined SUNY Purchase together with colleague stars Stanley Tucci and Ving Rhames with whom they became good friends.

Edie had her first film in 1994 with a minor role in Bullets Over Broadway by Woody Allen.  She got her role in the movie through her friendship with previous classmate in SUNY Purchase, Eric Mendelsohn (who was the assistant of Jeffrey Kurland), Woody Allen’s costume designer. Eric Mendelsohn directed Edie in his feature movie Judy Berlin with which he got the Best Director award during the Sundance Film Festival. Edie Falco, together with Gillian Anderson, from the movie The X-Files and America Ferrera (from Ugly Betty) were the only actresses that won within just one same year the Golden Globe, Emmy and SAG Awards. Edie got those awards in 2003 in playing the character role of Carmela in The Sopranos in its fourth season.

Among of her movies were Random Hearts, Sunshine State, Trust, Cop Land and Freedomland. Edie got a total of three Emmy Awards, two from the Golden Globe Awards and five from the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
