Charlton Heston often recounted his childhood years while growing up in the northern part of Michigan with a small population, he often venture in the forest and act out the stories he read from his books. When the World War II erupted, Heston was enlisted in the Army Air Forces of the United States where he served for two years as a radio operator and aerial gunner. Heston had success in television and theatre by playing numerous roles in both media. He also ventured in films and became an icon when he played the role of Moses on The Ten Commandments.

After Marlon Brando and other actors turned down the title role in Ben Hur, Heston was offered the role and won an Academy Award for his performance. From then on, Heston is a bankable actor other epic title roles. In 1965, Charlton Heston became the president of the Screen Actors Guild and he remained in the position until 1971.
