When he was just a student at the Santa Monica High School, Sheen was showing an early interest and attraction in his father's acting career. Hence, he played a small part in Martin Sheen's movie The Execution of Private Slovik in 1974 when Charlie was just nine. Unfortunately though, Sheen was expelled from his school due to poor grades and his absences.

Charlie Sheen's movie career can be considered to start when he made the 1984 Cold War teen drama Red Dawn with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. And again he did a small role in Ferris Bueller's Day in 1986. He experienced his first leading role in the Platoon (1986) and in Wall Street with his father. Other movies that Sheen has appeared were Grizzly II: The Predator (1976), Eight Men Out (1988), and in Young Guns and Men at Work, both of which are with brother Emilio Estevez.

The handsome actor also did a few comedy roles such as in Major League, Money Talks, Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4, and Hot Shots. Sheen have done shows in the small screen too. In 2000, he replaced Michael J. Fox in Spin City and in the CBS sitcom Two and a half Men in 2003 in which he was portraying a bad boy image.
