He had also appeared in Broadway where he performed on several shows in theater such as The Boys from Syracuse, Heavenly Express, This is the Army, Sing out, Sweet Land, Paint your Wagon, Dr. Cook’s Garden and his best remembered performance in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

After some time, Ives began his own radio show The Wayfaring Stranger in year 1940. In the next decade, he popularized traditional folk songs, such as Blue Tail Fly, Big Rock Candy Mountain, and Foggy, Foggy Dew.
