Industry experts reveal that he believed acting saved him from turning to a life of crime. He had a lot of talent for acting and dropped from college after having spent 2 years studying electrical engineering.          

Ben started out in Broadway in plays like ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’. He was nominated 3 times for an Emmy for 3 of his plays.

In Hollywood he has acted in ‘The Young Doctors’, ‘Husbands’, ‘The Killing of a Chinese Bookie’, ‘Saint Jack’ and ‘They All Laughed’. He has also had a part in ‘Illuminata’ along with John Turturro and Beverly D'Angelo.

His part in the movie ‘Roadhouse’ in 1989 has had many good reviews. Even though he has played a negative role in the movie, his fans remember him and the conviction which he gave to the part.

In his illustrious career in television he has performed in the mini-series ‘QB VII’ with Anthony Hopkins. The other TV series which were highly successful were ‘Arrest and Trial’ and ‘Run for your Life’.

He won his first Emmy in 2003 for his role in ‘Hysterical Blindness’ in the Outstanding Supporting actor category succeeding Brian Cox and Michael Moriarty.

In 1999 he was diagnosed with throat cancer and had undergone treatment. In 2005 he suffered a stroke which affected his speech terribly but was able to recover. Even though he is now in his seventies, he continues to take an active part in the movie business.
