Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to an American mother, Anne Dunham and Kenyan father Barack Obama Sr., making him the first president to be born in Hawaii. According to sources, his early school years were spent in Hawaii and partly in Indonesia when his mother remarried an Indonesian national named Lolo Soetoro, after her divorce with Obama’s father. He continued his collegiate studies in Los Angeles, California, at the Occidental College. He went to Columbia University in New York for his B.A. and graduated in 1983. He went to Harvard for his Law degree and went on become the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. He received his J.D. or Juris Doctorate in 1991.

 

Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on October 8, 2009, making him the 4th United States president to be awarded the prestigious honor after Theodore Roosevelt in 1905, Woodrow Wilson in 1919, and Jimmy Carter Jr. in 2002. He was also the 3rd to become a Nobel Laureate while in active office, while Al Gore is the only U.S. Vice President who won the award.
