Al Pacino Al Pacino is a film and stage actor and a director who won an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in the film Scent of a Woman. He was born on April 25, 1940 in East Harlem, Manhattan. His parents, Rose and Salvatore Alfred Pacino, were both Italian American who got divorced when he was just about two years old. Eventually, her mother moved to south Bronx to live with Al’s grandparents who came from Corleone, City while his father moved to Covina, California who opened his own restaurant that closed down in 1992. He went to a school in New York City called The School of Performing Arts: A Division of the Fiorello H La Guardia High School of Music and the Arts and by 1966 he was admitted into the prestigious Actor Studio where he studied under the famous acting coach Lee Strasberg. His role in the movie “The Panic in Needle Park” had caught the attention of Director Francis Ford Copolla. Al Pacino was then chosen to star in the mafia movie “The Godfather” which had catapulted him to fame portraying the Michael Corleone. He then eventually starred the two other Godfather films. His accomplishments include Golden Globe and BAFTA Award for Best Actor for the movie “Serpico”, BAFTA Award for Best Actor in “The Godfather II”, Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in the movie “Scent of a Woman”, Directors Guild Award - Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary for the movie “Looking for Richard”, Emmy Award and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor in the movie “Angels in America” and more than 22 nominations.
